I am often asked whether I "do" regression therapy. The answer is.....yes and no!
What IS regression therapy
Under deep hypnosis a person can be taken back in time - perhaps to childhood. Problems which started then, and which the younger person was ill - equipped to deal with effectively at that age, can be properly dealt with by the more experienced person we are presently dealing with. And it is true, that much of our behaviour and many of our feelings are influenced by past experiences.
There are two sorts of regression. In the first, the person relives the experience. If he goes back to childhood, he sees as a child, speaks as a child - and cannot remember events that have taken place after that period of his life. Sometimes, we call this "revivification" - literally a reliving of past events.
In the second type of regression, the person does not actually relive the past, but they are able to simulate behaviours appropriate to that time. They do not have associated amnesia of more recent events, but their memory of the past may be greater than they can remember consciously.
The clients do need to be under deep hypnosis for regression to be effective. Safeguards need to be in place - and, sometimes it's like cracking a walnut with a sledgehammer! That is why I personally only "do" regression after full discussion and assessment. However, in the right circumstances, regression can be very helpful.
