Weight Control.

Obesity is an increasing and serious cause of early death and morbidity. In our Western World of Affluence, how do you feel when you realise that today's children are quite likely to die before their parents? And for a preventable reason: our apparent inability to control our weight!

In the UK, 63% of men are overweight - and 57% of women. Included in these figures are the 17% of all men who are obese - and a massive 25% of all women are obese.

What does "obese" mean?

The web definiton is "having an abnormally high or unhealthy amount of fat".

It predisposes us to various medical conditions, including diabetes mellitus, osteo-arthritis, certain kinds of cancer, sleep apnoe and, of course, cardio-vascular disease.

We can measure it by our BMI  (Body Mass Index). We do this by measuring our height and our weight. then we simply divide our weight - in Kgm or pounds by the square root of our height in metres or inches.

So if your are 90 kgms in weight and 2 metres tall, (90 divided by 4) your BMI is 22.5 (normal)

  • Normal values are   18.5 - 24.9
  • Overweight             25.0 - 29.9
  • Obese                     30.0 - 39.9
  • Morbidly obese        40.0 and up.

A simpler way to measure is the waist. Women should measure les than 88cms and men less that 102 cms.(34.5 ins and 40 ins)

Eat less

Excersise more

 

Simple isn't it? So why don't we all do it?There are hundreds of "diets" out there and scores of excercise plans - there are "magic pills", weight loss belts and hosiery, machines and corsets - and some of them are helpful and some of them just help you eat up your money. and hey - who are they kidding?

We know we should eat less and excercise more, we know we should avoid high fat and suger foods.......so why are over half of us fat?

Our modern life style is busy, busy. busy....but often static, static, static.....we no longer walk to work, we no longer have to hunt our food or spend hours picking fruit and berries, our water comes from taps, and our pies ready made from the shop. And we have lost touch with ur own bodies.

We ignore the signals they are trying to send us, and we feed them with chemicals and additives, preservatives and colourings - some necessary but by no means all. Have you  ever carried on eating even after you  feel you have had enough - perhaps because it tastes good - or for social reasons - or even because you  have been so engrossed in your book or the television that you  simply didn't notice?

I have!

And have you  ever sat looking out of the window  and wanted - even briefly, to go outside and walk in the fresh air - but stayed firmly glued to your seat?

 I have!

Have you  ever eaten because you were bored or stressed or sad? 

I have!

So - What Can Hypnosis Do?

Hypnosis can put you  back in touch with your body. If you  are bored - it can motivate you, if you are stressed - it can relax you and if you  are sad - it may not be able to make you  happy - but it can help you to start getting on with your life instead of overeating and becoming sadder still.

What hypnosis can really do is to put you in touch with your inner consciousness, and with the messages  your body is trying to send you - the "I've had enough" message and the "Stop eating" message, that until now you  may have learnt to ignore. It can motivate you, clarify your goals and make it so much easier to eat less and exercise more.

I also do group sessions - these have the advantage that they are cheaper for you - and the group dynamics are often very supportive - other people are going through it all, too!

These are well tested and tried methods -they do work. I have also made a hypnosis CD to go with them, just my voice - no gimmicks, no subliminal messages - what you  hear is what is there. Simple but strangely effective.
